Ready to visit Alaska but not sure how many days you need to "see it all"?
It's debatable how much time, but seven to ten days is a good amount of time for a land trip to Alaska. A seven day land tour will take you from Kenai Fjords National Park all the way up to Denali National Park, with plenty of time to explore and take part in guided excursions. Alternatively, a ten day cruise might include seven days sailing and three days on a pre-cruise or post-cruise land package.
It's important to keep in mind that Alaska is vast and it takes some time to travel between destinations. For example, if you plan on making the journey from Anchorage to Denali, it could take roughly four hours by car, six hours by motorcoach or eight hours by train.
Can you see Alaska in just a few days?
With just three days in Alaska, you can see a lot of Alaska's stunning natural beauty and wildlife.
Beginning your trip in Anchorage, a direct flight away from many cities, you can take advantage of a day trip to Seward. Visiting Kenai Fjords National Park, take a hike, or visit the SeaLife Center.
How many days for an Alaska cruise should you take?
Most Alaska cruises you can book are going to be 7-nights, regardless of if they take the Inside Passage or a different route.
Part of the reason why most Alaska cruises are 7-nights is it allows the ship to easily get to a few ports in southeast Alaska, visit a glacier, and get back to the home port.
Plus, most Americans taking an Alaska cruise prefer to take just a week of vacation.
Certainly a longer cruise would allow the ship to go further into Alaska, but there aren't many options that go that long. Instead, a combination cruise and land tour is a more popular choice.
Cruise lines offer an add-on package where you can enjoy the best a cruise ship has to offer, and then take a guided multi-day tour to inland Alaska.
Cruisetours are usually between 10 and 14 nights when combined with a 7-night cruise.
